Susan Hopkinson

Rotary has always been part of my life—both of my parents and my grandfather were Rotarians and so is my brother, David. They inspired me to continue the tradition of service. I joined in July 2001 because I value the friendships, the opportunities to meet incredible people, and the chance to make a real difference through volunteering. Over the years, I’ve served as Treasurer for many terms and am now honored to be President again. One of my proudest moments was helping lead the Rotary Centennial Playground project in 2005, which united seven Ottawa Rotary Clubs to build a playground for children of all abilities. Rotary has not only allowed me to give back to the community but also taught me valuable skills in managing a Canadian Registered Charity—knowledge I’ve applied professionally.
Rotary has allowed me to grow as a person and hone many other skills too including public speaking, project management, leadership, and listening. I have made lifelong friends who are an important part of my life, and have met people from all over the world. I enjoy being able to attend any Rotary meeting where I always feel welcome and get the opportunity to learn how others are making a difference. During my time as president I intend to continue the traditions of our club and Rotary International and uphold the values of diversity and inclusivity. My favourite club tradition is our welcome song, which we sing for visitors. I welcome everyone to come to one of our meetings so we can sing it for you!
